Sooners Rock Kansas

Oklahoma Head Coach Sherri Coale earned her 300th win at OU as the Sooners dominated the Kansas Jayhawks, 81-69, in Norman. KU, who was picked to tie for 2nd in the Big 12, dropped to 1-4 in conference and 11-7 overall, while the number 13 Sooners, who were picked 5th, improved to 4-1 and 14-4.

The Sooners matched their season low turnovers, only committing 8.

OU started off slow, committing 9 fouls and falling behind 16-6 in the first nine minutes. But the Sooners went on a 31-8 run behind Nyeshia Stevenson to take a 37-24 halftime lead. In that 11 and a half minute time frame, the Sooners didn't commit a foul and drew 10 from the Jayhawks.

"We got down because we were fouling them in the beginning and were missing shots as well. We knew that when we would start to shoot the ball everything would be just fine so we didn’t worry at all,” Said Danielle Robinson.

The Sooners held Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Danielle McCray to 7 points. Danielle Robinson and Carlee Roethlisberger provided excellent defense and kept McCray in foul trouble.

Nyeshia Stevenson lead all scorers with 22 points, 21 of which came in an 8 minute period with 5:33 in the first to 17:28 in the second. After she went 2-15 in a loss to Baylor, Stevenson made a promise to her teamates.

"I keep going back to the Baylor game. I vowed to my teammates I would never look like that again. As long as I am in this Oklahoma jersey, I will not look like that again.

Over the last 3 games, Stevenson has kept her vow and has scored 20, 23, and 22 points.

All ten active Sooners played in the game, including walk-on Kodi Morrison. Danielle Robinson scored 14 points and dished out 7 assists and Carlee Roethlisberger overcame her conference shooting woes added 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Jasmine Hartman scored 7 points, including a three pointer that sparked the Sooners run. Freshman Joanna McFarland scored in double figures for the first time and finished with 11 points and 8 boards.

OU will play at Iowa State on the 27th. The game tips off at 7:00 CST.
