Sooners Fall in Waco

OU WBB (11-4) was unable to take advantage of an injury to Baylor leader Melissa Jones and fell to the Bears (14-2), 47-57, in Waco. OU had to deal with early foul trouble while trying to contain 6-8 blocking sensation Britney Griner.

OU fell behind 11-18 midway through the first, but fought back to take a 24-25 lead into halftime. The game see-sawed back and forth before Baylor went ahead for good on Shanay Washington's free throws 4 minutes into the second half. Baylor extended their lead to 37-52 with just under 5 minutes, but OU was able to crawl back and cut the lead to 7, but it was too little, too late as the Sooners were exhausted from the long, hard fought game.

Both teams struggled offensively without their leaders. OU's Whitney Hand is out for the season with a torn ACL and BU's Melissa Jones is out indefinitely with a stress injury.

Danielle Robinson scored 15 and Abi Olajuwan had 10 to lead the Sooners, who shot 30% from the field and were ice cold from behind the arc, finishing 1-15. Amanda Thompson led all players with 12 rebounds.

Kelli Griffin, Britney Griner, and Shanay Washington each scored 12 points for Baylor. Griner also had 11 blocks and was 1 rebound away from a triple-double.

OU did win the turnover battle: giving the ball away 14 times while causing 20 Baylor turnovers. While the Bears shot 18-30 on free throws, OU connected on all 8 of their attempts. These were two positives from the game as OU's Achilles heel has been taking care of the ball and free throw shooting.

OU will play another top 10 team as it host Texas A&M on Saturday.
