Freshman Tommy Mason-Griffin scored a career high 38 points and dished out 6 assists as OU topped Iowa State, 89-84, in Norman. Cade Davis added 24 as the Sooners, who were playing without Willie Warren and Tony Crocker, improved to 12-8 and 3-3 in conference.
Warren did not play for the second straight game after spraining his ankle in practice last Thursday. Tony Crocker was also out with a sprained right ankle.
OU led by as many as 21 late in the first, but ISU cut the lead to 3 points 4 times in the second. The Sooners were able to hold on by hitting key free trows.
Mason-Griffin and Davis combined to hit 21 of OU's 32 field goals. TMG was 13-21, including 5-10 from behind the arc, while Davis was 9-17 and 4-9 from long distance.
The Cyclones (12-8, 1-4) had 6 players in double figure, led by Diante Garrett's 17, but were unable to come up with the win.
OU will play at Nebraska on the 30th at 12:30 CST.
